John J. Perconti is the co-founder and senior partner of Levin & Perconti, and has devoted his career to the representation of injured victims in all types of wrongful death, personal injury, medical malpractice and product liability actions.
John Perconti has extensive civil trial experience, winning an extraordinary number of multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements for his clients in cases which have been tried in both state and federal courts.
In 2000, John obtained a landmark record medical negligence verdict in the State of Illinois of over $14 million for a 51-year-old woman as a result of failure to timely diagnose lung cancer. Since 2000 he has won a $5.77 million Federal Tort Claims Act bench trial verdict for a woman who became paralyzed as a result of a Veteran's Administration physician's failure to recognize worsening neurological symptoms and perform a necessary surgery to relieve spinal cord compression, as well as a $5 million verdict against a doctor and resident for mishandling a breathing tube, losing a 14-year-old quadriplegic client's airway which led to her death. John also achieved a record $10 million settlement for a five-year-old boy who lost his leg when he was run over by a fire truck. John has settled a nursing home negligence case on the verge of trial for an Illinois record $3 million for a woman who developed multiple bed sores in a nursing home, and won a $1.4 million verdict for the death of an 80-year-old nursing home resident who was assaulted. Most recently, John achieved a $6 million settlement on behalf of two families who lost 6 children in an apartment fire and reached a record Illinois Jones Act settlement of $4.5 million for a deckhand whose leg was injured on a barge and required an above-the-knee amputation. He has also obtained numerous multi-million dollar medical malpractice settlements in cases involving failure to diagnose breast, cervical, ovarian, pelvic sarcoma, and lung cancers.
Having been involved in so many intricately complex medical malpractice and personal injury cases, John has developed extensive medical knowledge and is extremely skilled at quickly grasping the medical concepts of a case. His strong and committed work ethic is a primary reason for his success.
In addition to twenty years of plaintiff personal injury experience, John brings with him three years of governmental experience as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.
John Perconti has received an "AV" rating from the Martindale-Hubble American Law Directory, indicating preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards. He has also been named one of Illinois' top litigators by Leading Lawyers Network and by Illinois Super Lawyers, a peer-recommended distinction.
John was born and raised in Chicago and resides with his wife Toni and two daughters Morgan and Paige.
