71 Illinois Nursing Homes Named in Third Quarter Violation Report

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has released its Third Quarter Report of Nursing Home Violators for 2019. IDPH is responsible for ensuring nursing homes comply fully with mandatory state regulations. This report dates July 2019 thru September 2019. It highlights 71 Illinois facilities cited for various violations of the Nursing Home Care Act, a statute that provides nursing home residents and their families with the assurance that proper and safe care will be received.

Violations, no matter how small in detail, should be taken seriously, especially since history proves a majority of these facilities will become repeat and more serious offenders. Besides, several of those cited this quarter are large facilities that choose to overwork, underpay, and overburden staff. Leaving these workers with too little of resources and too many residents to care for is a clear sign that abuse and neglect of residents is present.

Illinois facilities with violations in quarter three of 2019 include:

  • Accolade Paxton Senior Living
  • Alden Town Manor Rehab & HCC
  • Amberwood Care Centre
  • Aperion Care of Bloomington

Illinois nursing homes must follow the many care regulations set forth by IDPH and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). These facilities should be equipped with a high degree of support of workers expected to follow professional standards. This quarterly report alleges these facilities failed in some capacity to do so, and all should be named and held responsible.

How You Can Find Out More About a Nursing Home’s History of Violations

Several public and private agencies are responsible for the licensing, regulating, inspecting, and certifying of approximately 1,300 nursing homes in Illinois and responding to about 6,000 related complaints each year. Guided by more than 1,500 specific state and federal standards, these groups include IDPH and CMS.

While both agencies are taxed with exhausting jobs and often express a lack of funds to support survey and improvement initiatives, it is crucial for family and friends to stay informed of the nursing home care their loved one is receiving. You can do this by asking questions of both the staff and residents, through surprise visits, joining a resident council, and by taking the time to review ratings, rankings, and nursing home violation lists available through federal and state entities.

  • Find out the CMS quality rating of your loved one’s nursing home through Nursing Home Compare.
  • Review a list of Illinois’ most recent nursing home violators (through the Illinois Department of Public Health or IDPH).
  • Become familiar with the 22 known Illinois SFF facilities identified by CMS to have the highest likelihood of putting residents at risk of abuse or neglect.

Currently, those facilities include:

  • Accolade Healthcare of Pontiac
  • Alden Terrace of McHenry Rehabilitation
  • Aperion Care – Bloomington
  • Aperion Care – Cairo
  • Aperion Care – Capitol
  • Burgin Manor
  • Champaign County Nursing Home
  • Champaign Urbana Nursing & Rehabilitation
  • Edwardsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
  • Elevate Care Waukegan
  • Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation
  • Gardenview Manor
  • Generations at McKinley Court
  • Generations at McKinley Place
  • Greentree of Bradley Rehabilitation
  • Helia Healthcare of Belleville
  • Helia Healthcare of Champaign
  • Landmark of Richton Park
  • South Elgin Rehab & HCC
  • Suburban Nursing & Rehab Center
  • Swansea Rehab Health Care
  • Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion

All skilled nursing facilities must adhere to the minimum standards of care established by the federal Nursing Home Reform Law. Those who do not comply should receive health violations leading to various penalties, including fines or in some of the most severe cases, a group’s Medicare or Medicaid certification will be suspended or revoked by CMS.
