How Do You File a Complaint or Report Abuse in a Nursing Home?
Video Transcript
People often call us about wanting to see if they have the grounds to sue a nursing home or whether they can file a complaint against a nursing home without a lawyer. Number one, if you have a complaint against a nursing home in Illinois, there is an Illinois Department of Public Health hotline that you can call. They will take your complaint and they will investigate the complaint. Number two, in order to sue a nursing home, in order to get redress from a nursing home financially for the harm that has occurred, you need to consult a lawyer. When you consult a firm like ours, we review the facts. If, based on the facts that you tell us, we think there is a case, we’ll order the records. Then we file a piece of paper in court called a complaint, which basically says we are suing you, nursing home, because you were negligent in doing the following things, and those things caused injury or death to our client. And that’s a complaint.
