What Should I Do If I Suspect Hazing Is Happening at My School or on My Team?

Video Transcript

If you suspect that hazing is happening at school or on your team, the first thing you should do is go to your parents, confide in them, and make sure that they understand what’s happening. Ask them to help you report to the appropriate authorities. Every school and every team should have an anti-hazing policy, and within that policy, there will be a person, institution, email address, or phone number to report the abuse and neglect. Once you have a trusted adult on your side who is committed to making sure that your voice is heard, you should report to your institution’s hazing compliance office. If you suspect that there’s been hazing on your team, at your school, or in any kind of organization that you’re a part of, you should ask your parents to reach out to a lawyer who knows how to handle hazing, abuse, and neglect allegations. At Levin & Perconti we have developed over time the institutional knowledge to handle these hazing cases. We know what your rights are, we know what the damages are, and we know how to make sure that the institution is held accountable.
