How Do You Maximize Your Client’s Personal Injury Settlement Payout?

Video Transcript

Sometimes clients ask me what they can do to make sure that when we bring their lawsuit to a jury, we get them full and fair compensation. It starts with making sure that they keep track of the medical care and treatment that they are going to and updating us on when they have new doctors or new appointments. It continues with making sure that they go through with those appointments and that they listen to their doctors and get the therapy they need to at least get some of their function back and try to improve their condition to the best of their ability. It’s also helpful to keep a journal and to kind of make a note of the things that you are experiencing that you couldn’t do as well before the injury and that you are worried you’re not going to be able to do as well going forward. Sometimes it’s really the human damages—the things that have resulted in a loss of a normal life or have changed your appearance or changed your physical abilities—that really bring the story to life for the jury. So it’s not just about the lost wages or the medical expenses; it’s how has your life changed? Similarly, my clients that come to me who have lost loved ones and they’re dealing with the grief and sorrow and mental anguish that comes from losing a family member, it’s remembering the difficult times that you have throughout the year and just kind of making a mental note and communicating to us how that has impacted you. It also helps to know a little bit about the person and their story and where they started and what they’ve been through so that you can get a true picture of how the injury or the death has devastated their lives.
