Attorney for Nursing Home Abuse & Neglect at Alden Estates of Evanston
Assisted living facilities serve senior citizens needing rehabilitation services after major medical procedures or those requiring long-term care that can’t be provided at home. In both cases the residents experience a level of vulnerability that puts them at risk for personal injury if staff are negligent or even abusive. Illinois state laws try to protect senior citizens from these scenarios, but often it takes vigilant family and friends to bring cases to court before unscrupulous staff can be stopped and brought to justice.
This is usually when families come to our nursing home abuse attorneys at Levin & Perconti. Before it gets to that point though, there are things you can do to mitigate the risk of elder abuse. While we are dedicated to fighting for the victims of elder abuse, we are also dedicated to preventing cases involving the following and more from happening to begin with.
- Medication Errors
- Burns
- Malnutrition and/or Dehydration
- Physical or Sexual Assault or Abuse
- Wandering and Elopement from facilities
- Unauthorized Physical and/or Chemical Restraint Use
It’s because of cases like these that we’re glad to share information about Illinois nursing homes like Alden Estates of Evanston so you get a preview into the quality of care offered at the facilities you may be considering for a vulnerable loved one.

How to Protect Your Loved One in Assisted Living
If you suspect a loved one has suffered mistreatment at Alden Estates of Evanston or another Illinois nursing home, take action now.
First, continue to be vigilant. Visit your family member as often as possible and speak with them frequently so you can monitor the quality of care they are receiving. When visiting, look for signs of neglect and abuse such as
- Untreated severe bedsores
- Unexplained injuries like bruises, burns, or scars
- Evidence of poor circulation like sunken cheeks or eyes
- Weight loss or malnourishment not due directly to an illness
- Frequent trips to the emergency room or doctor
- Wrong type or the wrong amount of medication administered
- Poor hygiene or unwashed clothes or hair
- Instances of wandering or elopement
- Frequently misplaced or lost personal items
- A lack of basic necessities, including utilities, water, and food
- A dirty room or bathroom
- Frequent trouble sleeping
- Unusual violent or withdrawn behavior
- Sudden depression or confusion
- Signs of trauma like rocking back and forth
Document any signs of abuse or questionable actions by staff by taking notes, photos, or video when possible. Question staff about best practices and protocols if you see something that seems wrong or if you know something they do is against your loved one’s wishes or doctor’s orders.
Your next step is to take your findings to the facility’s management. They should be willing to hear your concerns and take immediate action to rectify the situation. However, if they are dismissive or defensive or fail to take action to prevent further abuse, it may be time to take legal action.

Testimonials
Not only were they so professional but also so caring and thoughtful. It was very difficult going over the facts in our mother's case but they were so compassionate and understanding and allowed us to be with them every step of the way. We were able to sit in on the depositions and we were really able to see how hard they worked on our behalf.
During that time, my family and I suffered the loss of my mother. Mr. Levin and Mr. Perconti were more than just our lawyers. Words can’t really express our gratitude.
They were most patient and responded timely to many questions throughout the entire process. All demonstrated professionalism and extensive knowledge of case and state laws. Their in-depth investigative work uncovered details which were unknown to us and yet sadly confirmed our suspicions. We would recommend the Levin and Perconti Law firm and especially this team.
