Levin & Perconti Announces Silverman and Koziol Delaney as Newest Partners

Levin and Perconti Attorneys

Levin & Perconti is proud to welcome Cari F. Silverman and Jaime Koziol Delaney as the firm’s newest partners. Cari has been with the firm since 2010 and earned her law degree from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her most notable settlements include a $6 million medical negligence settlement and a $4.75 million medical malpractice settlement. Jaime graduated from DePaul University College of Law in May 2011 and began working at Levin & Perconti in April 2012. She has successfully settled a variety of cases, including a $9 million medical malpractice case, a hospital fall lawsuit, and many nursing home negligence cases.

The two new partners bring the firm’s partnership to seven members, four of whom are women. They will join founding partners Steven Levin and John Perconti, and partners Susan L. Novosad, Michael F. Bonamarte, IV, and Margaret P. Battersby Black to lead the Chicago-based legal team in upholding a reputation of earning million dollar client verdicts and settlements for clients.

“We are so proud of the work Cari and Jaime do for our clients and of their emerging leadership within our firm,” said co-founding partner Steven M. Levin. “These women are talented and tenacious advocates who get top results for the people they represent while also being excellent, collaborative team members to work with.”

The firm, nationally known for its pioneering work on behalf of nursing home residents, handles a full range of personal injury cases and is in Chicago but handles lawsuits for clients throughout Illinois. Levin & Perconti’s practice focuses primarily on the following areas:

“From the moment I arrived here as a law clerk, I knew this was a place I could build my career and succeed professionally,” Cari said. “There is a commitment to giving people opportunities to excel. Senior partners take the time to mentor even the newest attorneys so that you can see your way to becoming a real trial lawyer in your own right, not just someone who does the paperwork.”

The firm thrives on multi-generational mentorship and recruiting young attorneys while transitioning them from student to teacher, creating valuable opportunities to learn and lead. With experience under their belt, the attorneys become empowered to do the teaching and produce top results time-after-time, sometimes record-breaking verdicts for clients, even when facing significantly more experienced defense counsel.

Elevating Young Lawyers

The partner’s commitment to developing young lawyers has also played a vital role in developing the winning culture and success of the firm. Many senior Levin & Perconti attorneys have contributed in supporting the remarkable records set by award-winning early-career lawyers. This includes eight honorees on the Chicago Lawyer “40 Under Forty” list over the last ten years and six designated “Rising Stars” on the Illinois Super Lawyers list in 2020.

“Steve and I founded the firm not just as something to put our names on, but with the idea of creating something larger than us,” John Perconti said. “We wanted to continue building the next generation of great lawyers to serve the future, and develop home-grown talent who can support clients with a deep commitment and passion for our most important work.”

Like Cari and Jaime, partners Michael Bonamarte and Margaret Battersby Black, have elevated their entire careers with the firm and continue to break barriers in their specific niches. Mike joined Levin & Perconti as an associate attorney in August 2005, was named as one of the Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” in 2010 and became a partner at Levin & Perconti in 2014. He is the youngest attorney in the firm’s history to be made partner. In 2019, Margaret sat first chair in more than 20 of Levin & Perconti’s 58 cases — the most by any lawyer, according to the recent Jury Verdict Reporter rankings. In addition, she supported 24 of the firm’s largest nursing home cases. She was also included on the 2018 List of Crain’s Custom Media’s Chicago’s Notable Women Lawyers and has been integral to the ongoing success of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’s women’s caucus.

“It is an honor to join the partnership at Levin & Perconti. We have such outstanding role models in the senior partners, who are lawyers fully committed to serving their clients and to helping young lawyers learn how to perform at the highest levels,” said Jaime.

Cari and Jaime both credit firm partners Susan Novosad and Margaret Battersby Black as mentors. Novosad has recovered multiple record-setting verdicts and settlements on behalf of clients, as has Battersby Black, who last year was recognized for having been the lead attorney on 20 of the top settlements reached in Illinois.

“It was invaluable to me to have Susan’s guidance in building my career, and I am thrilled to have been able to pay that forward to Cari and Jaime,” said Margaret.

Congratulations to Cari F. Silverman and Jaime Koziol Delaney as Levin & Perconti’s newest partners.
