July 2024 Updates in Highland Park Shooting Case

Video Transcript

I was approached by a family of three individuals that asked for representation as a result of what happened in Highland Park in 2022. This was obviously personal to me, having grown up in that community, having attended that parade, and having known exactly where a lot of these people were situated. I had texted some of my friends that I knew were at the parade to make sure that they were okay. So when these people called me, a young lady and her husband, both were shot in the leg, and the young lady’s father was also shot in the leg. I felt like I had to help them, and we filed lawsuits on behalf of all three of those individuals with varying degrees of injuries, but with emotional damage and devastation that’s going to be with them for the rest of their lives. Having gone through that and having experienced that, we filed our cases recently. It’s very early on; there are challenges because of the strength of the gun industry, so there are uphill battles. But I’m in it for as long as necessary, and you hope that things like this bring about change. I admire what has been done in Illinois since then; we’ve put a ban on assault rifles, and we have a law that discourages and prohibits these gun companies from marketing their products in a certain way. So sometimes trial lawyers have to get involved in these types of things to bring attention to the issue or to continue to bring attention to the issue.
