Meet Steven M. Levin, Illinois Personal Injury Lawyer

Video Transcript

I’m Steve Levin. I’m a trial lawyer. I’m a plaintiff of personal injury and wrongful death trial lawyer, something I’ve been doing my entire professional career. I’m a die-hard Chicagoan. We have our challenges, but I love this city, and I’m going to remain in this city for the rest of my life. I started my law firm with my last paycheck from my then-boss, which was $300, and that eventually turned into what is now a 30-person lawyer, 100% law firm. There were many detours and obstacles, but I’m glad I did it. I have always specialized in representing injured people or people who have who have been killed as a result of others’ negligence. One of the practice areas that we established was representing nursing home residents and their families.

One day, I discovered that there were tremendous laws that protect nursing home residents, but no one was enforcing them in civil lawsuits, and they are among our most vulnerable population. We worked on that practice, and when we first started, there were only four lawyers in the country handling those cases. Now there are thousands of lawyers. I think what we’ve accomplished, in addition to getting compensation for our clients for the injuries they suffered, is that these lawsuits have raised the standard of care.

As a result of doing nursing home litigation, we’ve expanded to representing people who have been institutionalized in group homes and mental institutions because this is a population that is being underserved by the law. There’s a huge amount of neglect and abuse in these institutions, and these folks who have to live in them need remedies—and that’s what we’re doing.
