What Are the Most Frequent Causes of Misdiagnosis?
Video Transcript
There’s a few different reasons why things get misdiagnosed. I mean, the most common thing that I’ve dealt with—and I’ve actually tried a couple of these types of cases—is failure to diagnose cancer. And it’s just tragic because this information was readily available to these doctors. There’s been other situations where I’ve looked at an X-ray myself without medical training and seen what looks like a button, and the doctor said, “I just didn’t see it,” and upon further questioning, said, “You know, I reviewed a lot of X-rays that day. I may have been fatigued.” It’s usually, when we’re talking about failure to diagnose cancer, one of those situations where someone identifies something, and then it just doesn’t get followed up on, or somebody just misses something that should be obvious to a trained professional.
